Hiding SQL Server instance across the network -

how can hide sql server 2008r2 instance? don't want visible users across network.

is possible?

yes, possible , pretty easy set.

in sql server configuration manager, expand “sql server network configuration” , right click “protocols < sql server instance >”. select “properties”. on “flags” tab, in “hide instance” drop down select “yes” , click ok save changes.

changes not take effect until service stopped , restarted. once database engine service of instance restarted, sql server browser service not expose instance of database engine client computers.
