networking - How to install a wifi n router as "invisible"? -
all right admit seems weird question, , keep in mind (in case didn't understand question) not networking guy, let me explain:
i work in office 1 (that's right) wall mounted female ethernet port per desktop pc (about 4 total...all on different sides of room). port not provides internet access provides access desktop pcs network rest of building (alas, have no direct access network, nor know it).
as external consultant don't need/care network resources need internet access various tasks. work laptop , there wifi provided company, turns out desk have sit @ barely in range of company provided access point. signal lost often, , waste hours upon hours trying logged on when dropped out. however, desk extremely close 1 of these wall mounted ports, on office's boss computer plugged into.
so thought, "hey, i'll buy , hoop-up simple little router wall plug , connect both computer , boss' computer router using ol' fashioned ethernet cables (both in straight-through configuration). problem solved!"
and worked charm. or thought.
see, problem boss computer disappeared network (while keeping full internet functionality, did) , famously luck have it, computer has important resources needed rest of team/building. ironically, 1 see boss computer on network because connected through router.
as local tech support guy explained it, boss pc not found on network because had different ip address wasn't recognized (these actual words used). alas, didn't notice little router unplugged , fixed problem him without him noticing it.
maybe simple diagram below illustrate better situation @ hand:
original configuration: ____ wall mounted female rj-45 plug | [] | '''''' [mylaptop(with crappy wifi)] || ^^^^^^^^^[bosspc] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- modified configuration using tp-link tl-wr740n n wireless router: ____ wall mounted female rj-45 plug | [] | '''''' ^^^^^^^^^[mylaptop] || || || ||--------------------------------- || (tp-link tl-wr740n n wireless router) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ '''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''^^^^^^^^^^^[bosspc] keep in mind disabled wifi while configuring router since don't need it.
my question following:
is there way, or specific set of configuration settings must use make can use router hard wired shown above, "transparent" rest of network? (by "transparent" mean in way boss pc can still viewed did in original configuration)
there several ways make work per description; however, not of approaches work due company's security infrastructure. let's try simple way first.
1) disable dhcp on tp-link 2) enable wifi preference settings 3) plug wall jack tp-link lan port (not wan) 4) plug boss's computer lan port 5) connect computer wifi dhcp client enable
note: in order manage tp-link again, need set computer static ip address, must same range tp-link ip. example, if tp-link ip 192.168.1.1 subnet 255.255.255.0. should set ip 192.168.1.10 subnet 255.255.255.0.
kindly comment on post if not solve issue.
thanks.
